Gruppo to Close East Village Location, Merge with Spunto in Nolita

Gruppo, a fixture in the East Village since 1999, announced it will close its Avenue B location on March 21, 2026. The closure marks the end of an era for the family-run pizzeria that has served the neighborhood for over 25 years.

The operators plan to consolidate Gruppo with their sister restaurant, Spunto, opening a combined establishment at 261 Bowery in Nolita on April 1, 2026. The new venue will operate under the Spunto name, reflecting a neighborhood shift rather than a complete disappearance of the Gruppo brand.

According to the owners, the Nolita location will retain familiar menu favorites from both restaurants, feature a full bar, and maintain Gruppo’s delivery zone. The move is presented as a strategic consolidation that aims to streamline operations while continuing to serve loyal customers.
