Longtime Upper West Side Diner Transforms Into Upscale Brunch Venue

The West End Diner, located at 75th Street and West End Avenue, has reopened after a three-month closure. The space, known for decades as a traditional diner, has been renovated and rebranded as a more upscale brunch destination.

The new concept features a revised menu with seasonal ingredients and a focus on brunch items such as avocado toast, eggs Benedict variations, and specialty cocktails. Interior changes include updated décor with lighter colors and modern fixtures.

The diner had been in operation since the late 1970s and was a neighborhood fixture known for its casual atmosphere and 24-hour service. The owners cited changing neighborhood tastes and economic pressures as reasons for the transformation.

The new brunch venue is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Staff from the previous diner have been retained, though kitchen operations have been expanded to accommodate the new menu.

Local residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some lamenting the loss of the diner’s classic charm, while others welcome the new dining option. The West End Diner’s evolution reflects broader trends in the Upper West Side’s dining scene.
