Greywind, the wood-fired restaurant from chef Dan Kluger, has closed its doors on Hudson Street. Greywind opened at a time when wood-fired cooking was still a novelty in the neighborhood. Its charcoal grilled carrots and sourdough flatbreads drew steady crowds, especially on weekends. In recent months, however, foot traffic on this stretch of Hudson Street had thinned, with several storefronts remaining dark during weekday lunch hours.

The closure comes as part of a broader wave of July restaurant shutterings in the city. Other nearby closures include a pizzeria on Carmine Street and a longtime bar on Bleecker. Kluger’s other ventures remain open for now, according to staff, but no announcements have been made about a new tenant for the Greywind space.

For neighbors, the loss is notable. On Friday morning, a produce delivery truck stopped outside the shuttered restaurant before moving on. The sidewalk, usually busy with brunch-goers this time of year, was quiet except for construction noise from a nearby site.
