Diet Coke has become difficult to find through major grocery delivery services in New York City this fall. As of early October, customers using Amazon Fresh, FreshDirect, Costco, and Target have reported empty search results for the soda.
One Brooklyn resident noticed the shortage during a routine Amazon Fresh order, stating that no Coca-Cola products have appeared in stock since early August. Similar complaints surfaced from Upper West Side shoppers on FreshDirect, as well as Midtown customers trying to order from Costco online.
Retail workers at a Flatbush Target on Saturday morning confirmed that restocks of Diet Coke have been inconsistent since late summer. Shelves at several Manhattan bodegas surveyed on Friday still displayed 20-ounce bottles, but multi-pack cases were in short supply or missing entirely.
Neither Coca-Cola nor the delivery platforms have publicly addressed the reason for the disruption. Grocery staff at a Park Slope supermarket speculated about possible distribution delays but offered no timeline for restocking. Some customers have started switching to other low-calorie sodas or seltzers while waiting for availability to return.
With football season gatherings and fall holidays approaching, many New Yorkers are watching restock notifications closely. Some are turning to in-person shopping, hoping for better luck at local stores.
